Doctrines in Genesis

Think of a Christian doctrine.  Any doctrine.  Now, where does its basis come from?  Either directly or indirectly, nearly, if not all doctrine are founded in Genesis.  Here is a selection of direct ones.
God as Creator – Many places throughout Scripture God is referred to as the creator. Deuteronomy 4:32, Colossians 1:16, Ecclesiastes 12:1, Isaiah 43:1, Isaiah 45:12, Isaiah 40:26, Isaiah 42:5, Matthew 19:4, Mark 13:19, Revelation 4:11, Revelation 10:6.  But the foundation of all of it is based throughout the first three chapters of Genesis.
Jesus at creation – Various places throughout the New Testament, We find that Jesus was there at Creation and was our creator.  Ephesians 2:10, Colossians 1:16, John 1:1.  Again, a fact established first in Genesis 2.
Marriage – Why do we get married?  Because Adam married Eve in Genesis - “For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh.”
Divorce – Why not divorce?  When asked, Jesus referred to Genesis 2
Homosexuality – Condemned many places in the Bible, but the reasoning always falls back to “In the beginning God created them male and female.”
Death – We are told that death entered the world through Adam.  In Genesis we see Man cursed with death through Adam.
Murder – With Cain and Able in Genesis, we also see that to kill someone is also against God’s will and a sin with serious repercussions.
Judgment – In Genesis we see God tiring of man’s sin to which He sends judgment on the world.  After, He says never again will He judge the world in that way.  But we see many other ways in which He does, and in which He promises to.   In Genesis 9:5 we see that God demands life blood from us all.
Dietary concerns – Why do we eat plants and animals and not dirt and rock?  In Genesis, Adam is told we can eat plants and later, Noah told we could eat meat.
Clothing – We are told in scripture that we must be modest in dress.  But why dress at all?  Because God clothed Adam and Eve after sin entered the world.
The Week – A day is the time it takes the earth to rotate on its access.  A month is the time it takes the moon to orbit the Earth.  A year is the time it takes the earth to orbit the sun.  But why on earth do we have the week?  Exodus 20 states quite clearly it is because God created everything in six days and rested on the seventh. (see Genesis!)
Light is good and separated from dark – Scripture tells us that we are to be the light of the world, that we are to live in the light and shun the dark.  This is first stated in Genesis 1.
Obedience – Right from Adam being put in the Garden we see God stating rules we are to obey.  We see the paradise we can live in if we obey Him and the dire consequences that arise when we don’t.
Paradise – Jesus promises that when believers die, we will live with Him in Paradise.  Where is our first glimpse of paradise?  Genesis 2.  We are also  told that when Jesus comes again, the world will be restored to the paradise it was before Adam sinned.  If that world was a world full of violence, death, disease and suffering the millions-of-years folk want us to believe, does it really matter that He comes back?  It doesn’t sound like He’ll change much.  That is unless what He restores it to is what scripture says it was like in Genesis.
Responsibility to creation – Why do we care about the condition of the world?  Why don’t we use America’s coal riches?  Why do we worry about litter and pollution?  Why care is an animal becomes endangered?  Why?  Because in Genesis, God appointed us keeper and gives us dominion over the earth and its inhabitants.
Work – Why do we work?  Why not just laze around all the time?  Why?  Because the first thing God did when putting Adam in Eden was to give him a job.  Then after he sinned, God made his job harder and more necessary for Adam to even survive.
Languages – Why do we have such vastly different languages?  Because in Genesis, God gave the different languages to the people of Babel and sent them out to populate the earth.
Adultery – Scripture is replete with verses saying that sexual relations only be between husband and wife.  All these point back to Genesis saying “For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh.”
God’s Plans – Where do we first see that God has plans for us, that even though people may try to harm us, that God will prosper us and turn what others mean for evil, for His, and for our good?  The telling of Joseph’s story in Genesis.
How are we to treat those who harm us – How?  Like Joseph who forgave and exalted his brothers who tried to kill him then sold him into a life of slavery.
All things are possible and God fulfills His promises – Where do we first see God fulfilling His promises and doing the impossible?  In Genesis He promises Abraham and Sarah a child even though Sarah is far past child bearing years.  Then they have Isaac.
Circumcision – Why do we circumcise boys?  Because God said to in Genesis.
Abraham father of nations – Why do we call Abraham ‘father of the nations’ and honor him as such?  Because that’s what God promised he’d be in Genesis.
Covenants from God – Where does God start the precedence of Giving us covenants between He and us?  It starts off right with Noah in Genesis.
Christ death for sins – The biggest one of all.  Why did Jesus even come to earth, live, teach and die for us??  Without Genesis there is no reason.  Jesus is said to have come because through sin, which came by Adam, all must die.  Only the sinless may enter heaven, all the rest must pay with their lifeblood.  If Adam is figurative and didn’t exist there was no original sin.    Death would not be a punishment for sin but a beneficial tool used by God to create us.  But the Bible there is death because we sin.
Sin - What about sin itself?  Sin is said to have entered through Adam because he CHOSE to disobey God.  We are all guilty because we all CHOOSE to sin.  But if there were millions of years on earth before Adam, sin was already here.  “Pre-historic man” and animals are storied to have committed countless sins as did all their ancestors.  By the time Adam arrived millions of years later, the earth was full of sin and death.  Sin becomes not a choice, but a part of how we were created due to no fault of our own.
Without Genesis, sin is no longer our fault but God’s programming.  Death is no longer a punishment for our sins, but a tool used by God to take us from our primitive, unthinking, animalistic prior selves to our present, sophisticated, intelligent grandeur!  What is there to be forgiven for and saved from??
The book of Genesis is foundational to the rest of the Bible.  Why does Satan attack it and try to get people to not believe it, because he knows this to be true.  Psalm 11:3 declares that 'if the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?'   Satan’s first words to man was a lie.  Don’t believe him now when he lies to you about the truth of Genesis.
